What is Consent.Ed?

The Consent.Ed  programme explores issues around sexual consent, providing an opportunity for us to discuss how we can look out for one another and create a positive, respectful consent culture, where everyone feels safe on campus.

Level 1 and Level 2 Consent.Ed is mandatory for all new students at LSE, across all levels of study.

Completion status will be monitored by our Consent.Ed Team, and you will be contacted directly if you do not complete your training.

Get Started:

Level 1: Online Moodle Course

Complete your online module (course link coming soon). This should be completed before you arrive on campus.

The course takes around 45 minutes to complete.

The first part of the course will cover information on support available at LSE, our policies and procedures, where to report incidents and some key information on being an active bystander.

You will then move onto learning about sexual violence and consent. You will be given notice before moving onto this section

There will be a short quiz at the end, which you must score 80% in to pass and be marked as ‘Complete’.

Level 2: In-person Workshop (including Survivor-Only option)

Attend your in-person workshop once you have arrived on campus. Your session will form part of your Departmental induction and should either appear in your Student Hub timetable, or your Department will be in contact about how to book.

If you are a PhD student, sessions are also mandatory and will be available via the PhD academy. To book a session click here.

Level 2 workshops lasts 90 minutes and your attendance will be recorded at the end of the session.  The Level 2 Workshop is interactive, and discussion based. This workshop will provide a collaborative space for reflection on your learning from Consent.Ed level 1. You will then discuss scenarios which focus upon the following key themes: Alcohol and Consent, Spiking and Active Bystander, Healthy Relationships and Staff/Student Relationships and Power Dynamics.

Survivor-Only Level 2 Workshops

This option is open to anyone who has experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their lives. All genders and sexualities are welcome.

This workshop will be facilitated by our Independent Sexual Violence Adviser and our Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Policy Adviser. Our specialist staff have extensive experience of providing trauma-informed support to survivors and the session is designed to create a safe and supportive environment to learn and discuss topics of consent together with other survivors.

The group will be no larger than 15 and you will not be asked to discuss your own experience(s).  Your participation in the Survivor-Only Level 2 Workshop will be confidential from the wider school as your completion status will appear the same as fellow students.

Level 3: Active Bystander training

Level 3 Consent.Ed is for LSE Student Union clubs and societies committee members. Committee members will need to complete all three Levels of Consent.Ed.

Level 3 Consent.Ed, is an ‘Active Bystander’ course facilitated by LSE Student Union staff.

Content Warning:

Consent.Ed discusses topics of sexual violence and consent. ‘Sexual violence’ is an umbrella term used to describe any sexual activity that happened without consent which can include sexual harassment, sexual assault, abuse and rape.

We understand that sexual violence can happen at any time in someone's life and due to the sensitive nature of the content, not everyone feels comfortable to take part.

As this is a mandatory programme for all new students and we will be monitoring completion, you will need to indicate to the Consent.Ed team if you feel unable to take part in any element of the Consent.Ed programme (e.g. Level 1 or Level 2). Please find details of the opt-out process below.

Opt-out process for those personally impacted by Sexual Violence

If due to personal experience you feel unable to partake in any element of the Consent.Ed programme (e.g. Level 1 or Level 2) then you will need to fill out our opt-out form.

We will be monitoring completion of Consent.Ed since this is a mandatory programme for all new students. Therefore, if you do not complete the opt-out process, you will be flagged as incomplete and chased for completion.

On the opt-out form, you will be able to indicate whether you are opting out of Consent.Ed Level 1 only, Consent.Ed Level 2 only or both.

The ‘Consent.Ed Team’ monitor the opt-out forms. This consists of LSE’s Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Policy Adviser and LSESU’s Events and Projects Coordinator.
